And a few infrequently asked questions too
About Ella Publishing Co.
What's the deal?
Ella Publishing Co. is an innovator in the creation and delivery of digital books (eBooks) to the scrapbook industry. Founded in 2009 by Angie Lucas and Lain Ehmann (and later joined by Wendy Smedley), Ella Publishing Co. aims to inspire, educate, and entertain memory keepers around the world with top-quality e-media products. Read
our story here.
Who is Ella?
Ella is our mascot, the cute elephant you see on our logo. She was created by talented Web designer Travis Lucas, who happens to be married to Ella co-founder Angie Lucas, but that's not why he got the job. Incidentally, Ella's name is an acronym of the original owners' initials in reverse order. Angie Lucas Lain Ehmann = ALLE. Flip ALLE around and you have ELLA. Clever, eh?
(Note: four months after launch, Lain resigned due to personal family circumstances, and Angie chose not to rename the mascot "Al" or "La," since neither moniker is very suitable for an adorable female pachyderm.)
Why an Elephant?
When Ella Publishing Co. was born, we simply couldn't resist including an elephant in our logo and brand. After all, elephants never forget, and neither do scrapbookers.
Is it true that elephants never forget?
While we can't personally vouch for this, having no actual pachyderms on staff (yet),
Scientific American confirms that the rumor is true.

Purchasing, Downloading & Printing eBooks
What is an eBook?
Ella Publishing Co.'s eBooks, or electronic books, are professionally designed documents that you download from our website in electronic format. They are delivered as .pdf documents that have been specially optimized for easy on-screen viewing and at-home printing. After downloading, you can read the file on your computer or print it at home. It's up to you! (Isn't it nice to have choices?)
What is a PDF file? Do I need special software to open and read it?
PDF stands for portable document format. Ella Publishing Co. eBooks are all delivered as .pdf files, which can be opened by any version of Adobe Reader as well as several other preview programs. Adobe Reader software comes standard on many computers, and it can be downloaded for free at
getadobe.com/reader.
How do I download the eBooks I've purchased?
When you purchase an eBook, you instantly receive an email with a link to download the eBook. This link can be used one time. If there is a problem and you need to try again, just log in to your account and click the File Downloads link to access your files, which will be available for download for a week after the purchase date.
What if I have problems downloading my file?
Make note that you can only download a file for up to one week after you purchase it. Some of the files are 20 to 30 megabytes (i.e., kind of big), so be patient while they download. If you experience any problems, you can download the file up to three times from up to two different computers. Feel free to
contact us if you're having technical difficulties.
How do I view my previous orders?
When you place your first order at ellapublishing.com, you'll be given a username and password for the website. Then, when you're logged in, you can click on "My account" to view your order history. Just click on the Orders link.
I lost one or more eBooks due to a computer crash. What can I do?
No worries! Since your order history is saved to your Ella Publishing Co. profile, we can easily find a list of the titles you lost. Send an email to
support@ellapublishing.com, and we'll replace your previously purchased eBooks for free.
Do Ella Publishing Co. eBooks work on the Amazon Kindle or other portable devices?
Not at this time. Our eBooks are optimized for on-screen viewing or at-home printing. Small portable readers, especially those with black-and-white screens, make it difficult (if not impossible!) to view and appreciate the beautiful scrapbook layouts and photographs embedded in our eBooks.
How large is each eBook file?
Ella Publishing Co. eBooks are designed to perfectly fit U.S. letter-size paper (8.5 x 11) when printed. In order for the images in our eBooks to be high enough resolution for you to print at home, the file sizes for each eBook can be as large as 30 MB. Even if you're using a high-speed connection, the files may take several minutes to download after purchase, but once the eBook is on your computer, you'll be able to print a beautiful, high-resolution copy of your eBook at home.
Where should I save my purchased eBooks?
While you can save your files anywhere on your computer, we recommend creating a folder wherever you keep your important or frequently accessed files. Name your folder "Ella eBooks" and save every new eBook you download into the same folder for easy access.
Why does each file I download start with "EPC," and what does it stand for?
"EPC" stands for "Ella Publishing Co." We include this tag at the beginning of each file so that, when you download several different eBooks, they'll be grouped together alphabetically in whichever folder you choose to save them. Pretty smart, eh?
All printers offer different menus and options. A few common things to check are:
Make sure your document size is set to landscape instead of portrait orientation for our standard eBooks. In some versions of Adobe Reader, this is as simple as clicking the "Auto Rotate and Center" button. (Note: some of our Ella Fun products are portrait orientation, so change the paper feed option to suit the individual product you're printing.)
Make sure that tiling or "multiple pages per sheet" options are not selected.
Make sure your printer is on and that your paper is properly loaded.
Click here for more printing tips from Adobe Reader.
How do I print on both sides of my paper?
Unless you're an Evel Knievel, risk-taking type, we don't recommend double-sided printing on regular copy paper (the ink tends to bleed through to the reverse side on thinner paper). Click over to our
Printing Tips article for all kinds of useful tips just like this.
I don't like the eBook I purchased. What can I do?
We are so certain you'll enjoy our eBooks that we offer a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee on all purchases. If despite our best efforts, your purchase just didn't float your boat, please email us at
comments@ellapublishing.com and let us know where we went wrong. We'll be glad to offer you a store credit or a full refund.
The short answer is no. The long answer is also no. Your purchase entitles you to download and print a particular eBook for your personal use. We’re glad you like our books enough to share, but copyright laws expressly prohibit distributing additional copies and/or forwarding the electronic files to others. The security protocols attached to our eBooks also prevent them from being opened or edited by photo-editing programs such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and Adobe Illustrator. We're not trying to be a pain, we're just trying to pay the grocery bill.
Submitting Layouts & Ideas
Do you accept eBook manuscripts for publication?
You're so sweet to ask! We’re always looking for innovative, well-written, fun takes on scrapbooking and memory-keeping. We would like to see a proposal rather than a completed manuscript, so see below for proposal and submission information.
How do I submit a proposal for an eBook to Ella Publishing Co.
It’s easier than falling off a log—and a lot less painful!

How do I submit articles for Scrapbook Ellaments™?
