My name is Wendy and I was born in the late 60's when the play Peter Pan was very popular. My dad saw it and loved the Wendy character so much, he wanted to name his first daughter Wendy. (and for a few years in junior high I believed I was destined to marry someone named Peter)
Easy enough??
You have until Friday, February 19th at midnight, MST to enter.

winner of last week's contest, uptown cat who said her favorite season was

"I love summer. The flowers are blooming. Everything is green. Afternoons/evenings at the pool or in the back yard. Open windows. Love it all."

Thanks for playing along everyone.

My name is Myra and my name came from my Great Grandmother. When she found out I was named after her, she said, "Why would you give such a tiny baby such an old name?" I've grown into it nicely.
Hi, My name is Ami and I chose it. The last name that I chose was Free-Spirit. I keep it for my art work and use my wonderful hubbies last name the rest of the time. When I was born in 1944 I was named Judith. It never fit but my mom had a thing for Judy Holiday and so there I was. I decided in the mid seventies to become Ami Free-Spirit and my folks liked it also. Mom said that Ami fit me much better than Judy ever did.
I go by my middle name, Michelle, which my Dad chose because he liked the Beatles song. And I have since danced with him to that song on many occasions.
My name is Elizabeth and I am named after my dad's grandmother.
I'm Catherine Marie, my mom is Marie Catherine, my grandmother was Catherine and my daughter is Emma Catherine. If we keep up the pattern, I should have a grandchild named Catherine. I like the continuity of a female name since we lose our surname in marriage.
Cathy S
My name is Carmel and it would be a religious name from Our Lady of Mount Carmel-(nothing to do with the place in US) Mt Carmel is in the Middle East and the name is meant to mean "God's Vineyard"
My name is Deborah, and my parents chose it from the Bible. Deborah was one of few female prophets and a judge in Israel. I appreciate that they named me after a strong woman.
My dad wanted to name me Anne, and call me Annie. My mom didn't feel that Anne was a complete name. So when my dad left the room, she completed the paperwork, naming me Annette, figuring my dad could still call me Annie. To this day, I've never been called Annie.
My name is Amy. My mom loved the book Little Women and named me after one of the sisters in the book.
My name is Diana and I have no idea why I was named that (I should ask) but my mother always told me when I was growing up that Diana was the Roman goddess of the hunt.

My dad visited some family in Hawaii when he was a kid. The older boys in the family made a lot of fun of him and teased him. There was one girl in the family and even though she was very young she would stick up to her brothers for my dad. He always admired her courage and how she befriended him. He decided that if he ever had a daughter he wanted to name her Monica just like that little girl. And so he did.
My middle name is Caroline, after my great grandmother who passed away shortly before I was born
My first name is Malia and my middle name is Noelle. Malia means "Mary" in Hawaiian and Noelle of course Christmas. My Mom is from Hawaii. I was supposed to be born on Christmas. Even though I was late, they named me "Merry Christmas" anyway!
Malia in Seattle
My name is Tiffany Mary--not sure why my parents picked Tiffany but Mary is my grandmother's name.
My parents were going to call me Neil until I inconveniently turned out to be a girl! ;-) It took them three weeks (right up until the time they legally had to register my name) to decide on Sarah. It was the only girl's name they both liked, which is why I have no middle name. They still call me Biff, the nickname they gave me when Mum was pregnant and I was kicking a lot... :-)
My name is Marlie, I was born in the 60's and my Uncle was in the music industry and was very into Reggae at the time and told my mother she should name me "Marley" in honor of Bob Marley the reggae singer. You've noticed the spelling difference? Well on my first birth certificate it was spelled "Marley" on my second birth certificate it was spelled "Marlee" and the third, and final, it was spelled "Marlie". :)
My name is Cynthia. My parents chose my name. Originally, they were going to name my eldest sister Melanie with my name (i'm the youngest of 3)...but then they decided that Melanie "was a better name". Hmph. Btw- my middle sister's name is Melissa, so apparently MY name is third best. ;)
My name is Melinda Ann and my parents named me after my Aunt Linda. Also, my dad called my mother Joyce Ann, even though this was not her middle name so they used Ann as my middle name.
My name is Rebecca and it comes from the Bible (different spelling) I'm not sure if that's why my parents chose to name me Rebecca.
My name is Margie (Mar-ghee). I'm named after my grandmother, Margaret. My father always wanted to use family names. My mom wasn't so happy about this plan so she only agreed if I could go by Margie (Mar-ghee). A friend's girlfriend had this pronunciation of the name and she really liked it.
My name is Karin (car-in) Eve. It is Norwegian and was suggested to my parents by my Norwegian grandfather. He was really pushing for Helga Olga, but my mom wouldn't go for it. They called me Kari (car-ee) my whole life. Eve was for both my grandma Evelyn and my aunt Eva June.
I was named after local anthropologist Jennifer James ... unfortunately my Mom didn't know that every other pregnant woman named her daughter Jennifer in 1978. :)
My name is Vickie. My sister thought it should be Victoria and prepared birth announcements to that effect. But my parents said no- it's Vickie. I don't know why they didn't go for Victoria. But I'm okay with Vickie.
My name is Ann and I was named after my mother's sister, Anne. This is the woman who ended up raising me as my mother passed away when I was 6 weeks old.
Ann Everett, WA
Hi, I'm Julie and although I was named after a character in a book my mom was reading while pregnant with me, I feel more like I was named after millions of other babies named Julie in 1970. From kindergarten through high school I was never really Julie, but always Julie W. So many Julie's! But in college, I was destined to meet my best friend, who understood my plight better than anyone else...of course, her name is also Julie and we even share our middle name, Anne!
I was named after my mother's mother, which is the tradition. They did not follow it with my siblings and I was the only one saddled with a really old fashioned name.
My name is Tara, after the plantation in Gone With the Wind - my mom just loved it as a girl's name.
I wish I had something more prophetic to say about this subject. My name is Carol. I was named after Carol Burnett, because my mother always watched her show and comedy routines and got such a kick out of her antics. I've got a quick wit, but I'm not nearly as funny or animated as my namesake...
My name is Carrie. My mother had worked with a woman named Carrie before she was married and had liked the name. She then proceeded to name her next three babies with names that started with the letter C!
my name is Brandy. I was named after the song Brandy by Looking Glass.
